Tailor-made
A trip built around your dates, not ours
Every one of our 9 years has gone into a set of scheduled routes. When those dates or that pace do not suit, the same planners will write you something private instead.
Three minutes to send
Half-answers are fine. “No idea where to go” is a valid answer.
- A planner replies within one working day — last year the average was 6 hours.
Step 1
You send a brief
The form below takes about three minutes. Half-answers are fine; "no idea where to go" is a valid answer.
Step 2
A planner reads it
Not a sales team. The person who replies has usually walked the route. Within one working day, and last year the average was 6 hours.
Step 3
We send a shape and a price
A day-by-day outline with an honest price band, and where we think your plan is too ambitious we say so.
Step 4
You change it until it fits
Most trips go through two or three drafts. Nothing is charged until you are happy — then a 30% deposit confirms it.
When tailor-made is right
- You have fixed dates that no scheduled departure matches.
- You are travelling as a family or a group of friends and want the group to be just you.
- You want a route that combines regions our set trips keep separate.
- Someone in the party has mobility, altitude or dietary needs that need designing around.
- You have been to China before and want the parts you missed.
When it is not
- You are two people on a flexible date — a scheduled departure is usually cheaper for the same trip.
- You want the lowest possible price. Private travel costs more; we will not pretend otherwise.
- You are leaving within three weeks. Permits and the best guides need longer.
If the right answer is a scheduled departure, we will tell you that instead of quoting you a private trip. Browse the set routes.
Tell us the shape of it
Three minutes, and only your name and email are required. Everything else can be “not sure yet” — that is genuinely useful information too.
